A Day Like Today…

Before I say anything else, I gotta say… Zero downtime my butt, Protagonist. My site has been down since last night, I think… I should have figured, since every time I tried to check my email, but I didn’t notice it until this morning. But of course, a day like today, I didn’t have a lot of time to deal with it… Except now…. I’M FREEEEEEEEE….. Yah. But anyway, I was annoyed just a little while ago when I got home and it was still down, but… I can’t stay mad at you, Protagonist (my host…)

So what is up with a day like today… Well, it’s a one-hour term test, followed by a three-page paper, topped off by a 2-hour midterm. Whopeee. Oh and don’t forget, I still had to teach of course.

Crazy huh? In UofT, you’re actually not allowed to have 2 exams (and a paper for that matter) happening right after each other. But these two were an hour apart. But yah, there is something good about it. It’s times like right now, when the pressure has completely lifted, and I’m feeling gooooddd. Well ok, so not all the pressure… I still actually have 1 exam left, American History. But meh, I’m not really worried about that. It’s 2 weeks away. Also, tomorrow is the last day at the Telefund, next week is the last day for piano, but I have to keep teaching (english) until pretty much almost Christmas. But that’s cool, need to keep that income coming. Plus I don’t need to leave my house right… so meh.

But yeah, that’s not all I’m happy about. The 2 exams I wrote today? FREAKING EASY. Oh man, I can’t believe I was so worried about it. But then, that’s how I do exams. I prepare for the worse, so when it happens, then I’m not disappointed. But if the not-so-bad happens, then I’m happy. Then if the totally-amazing happens then I’m ecstatic. Today was… Somewhere in between not-so-bad and totally-amazing. So yeah I’m pretty pumped right now. I’m pretty confident that I did well, at least a B, probably an A, might even be an A+… I’m confident, but I’m not sure I totally nailed it. But yeah, I won’t know for another like 5 weeks or so, so I’m not gonna even think about it for a while.

So I’ve prepared for my celebration already. It’s more a personal thing since most of my friends are still in school – don’t wanna make anyone jealous you know. I’ve got Miami Vice, which I’m going to watch tonight. Then I’m going to sleep in and catch up on all the sleep I’ve lost tommorow… After work. But then I have to go to the Telefund one last time this year… then… that’s it. Bye bye UofT until January (oh, but of course there’s the American History exam…)

So yah. I’m gonna.. go.. relax for now. I do have some things to write about – like the death of Traditional Marriage here in Canada. But that can wait until tommorow. Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee….

Ready to take on the day…

Phew, I’m gonna nap for a little bit, then I’ve got a doctor’s appointment – hopefully I can finally get my flu shot too, but I doubt he’ll let me cause I was just sick. But anyway, I’m ready to take on this craziness of a day… actually it’s an extention to tommorow’s craziness of a day… I should start a count down until the craziness ends tommorow at 4PM (When my last exam ends).

To do today…

  1. POL208 (Intro to IR) – I still have 9 articles to review (or read, if I haven’t read it before). Each article takes a minimum of 30 minutes, 1 hour if i have to read them.
  2. Still POL208, I have to review notes for the rest of the articles that we were supposed to read.
  3. I need to rent Dr. Strangelove… and probably watch Fog of War again…
  4. I have to go through all of my lecture notes for the 2 exams tommorow. There’s about 40 typed-up pages worth.
  5. I have to complete the Canadian History assignment. Not that hard… 3 pages. But meh, time, time, time.Tonight is the “opening” night of the production… the pre-production-production. Scary, cause last night there were a lot of mistakes… but of course, a bad dress rehearsal leads to a great opening night right? I hope. LOL.
  6. Uhh.. Wow I think that’s it. I know it doesn’t seem much, but just to put it into perspective. I have to read probably 500 pages of paper today. Mostly skimming of course, but I’m deffinately going to go through all of those. And I’ll probably end up writing something like 5000 words of notes. Yahuh. Crazy…

BRING IT ON! But first… nap time… lalalalalala. Yipppeeeeee…

Oh, but before that, just some quick pictures…

These are the sights I’ve gotten oh so used to with the countless hours I’ve spent on the piano at church, preparing for the production. Note the Extra Large Tim Hortons coffeee… whee.. LOL. More pictures to come, once I’ve gone through them and gotten rid of the trash ones.

Review: Failure to Launch

First of all, this being my first review, I just want to explain something about why I am watching a chick flick / romantic, whatever… I’m pretty much responsible for entertainment at my house – well, renting movies that is. And every time I rent a movie, one is for me, my dad, and James – usually something action, sometimes comedy. While the other is for my mom. A chick flick of course. I’m also the one who buys the DVDs and more recently, the TV Show DVDs… Of these I don’t really buy anything for my mom, she only gets rented stuff.. So my DVD collection is actually full of war and action stuff.

But anyway, the fact is, I pay for the rental of this DVD. And you’d better believe I’ll get my money’s worth by watching it, even if it *is* a chick flick. And now, I’ve decided that I want to write reviews of all the movies that I watch, so here it is… This isn’t going to be some deep critical review. Just simply what I thought about it…

Failure to Launch, starring Matthew McConaughey and Sarah Jessica Parker.

It was actually really funny, all those times that McConaughey got bit by an animal of some sort. Plus, just some random comedic things that happened. Overall, the story is pretty good, and it shaped up nicely. Like the thing about McConaughey’s fiancé dying, which makes his whole staying at home thing make sense. Then I thought the way they reconciled was pretty unique… Not the whole dramatic sniffles cry scene that’s common, though what do I really know about romantic comedies? It was apparently emotional…

It was also actually pretty decent. Sex is used in a more comedic way – as in kind of making fun of it, and the only nudity is old man’s butt nudity – again in a funny way. And also, not a lot of swearing, except for one notable use of the f-word, which is kind of understandable given the circumstances of the scene.

On a guy scale of 1 to 5, 1 being “run away”, 3 being “see it, but make sure it’s with a chick” and 5 being “screw what the boys think, I’m secure in my sexuality”. I’d give this movie a 3.5…

Also, on a kind of spiritual twist to this, I can’t help but notice the “want” of the major characters – Parker and McConaughey… this is illustrated in the… I dunno I guess you can call it the “climax” moment, where Parker asks McConaughey if he’d rather have fun or spend the rest of his life with her… It was supposed to be funny of course, but the idea is, that they are still looking for that “forever kind of love” that somewhat eludes most people today, what with all the divorces and multiple partners and everything. I take this as a reflection of what people do actually want, which is amazing that (even though it’s not even implied that got married), monogamy is actually seen as the ultimate fulfillment of our romantic lives… Well, that is, as said before, finding the “forever kind of love” (I forget what movie that line is from). So yah, some food for thought right there. Now I’m gonna do some actual work and finish these dang summaries.

Videos

Well right after I finished writing my previous post (see below), I suddenly felt a burst of motivation. I think it was because I actually ate breakfast… or maybe it’s because I was cause I was finding a way to procrastinate on school work, and I already did all my facebook stuff this morning.. lol. But yeah, I finished editting the videos from Sunday, and here they are…

Way to go, nub…
As if my week wasn’t crazy enough, I developed a nice little cold… one of those colds that doesn’t exactly knock you out. But it makes you wish for death… My nose is raw already from all the sneezing and blowing and tissue paper that’s been touching it. And I know I have way too much drugs in my system… well not right now, cause I just woke up. But if I want to function today, I’m going to have to take some more.
Yesterday was a blur… I don’t even know how I got through without some major breakdown. First of all, I was cramming for my POL203 exam, which was bad enough. Then, when I went to school in the after noon to write the exam, I forgot my nasal spray. It was bad for me, but not as bad as it was for the people around me, having to write their exams through the nasty sounds of my sniffling and nose-blowing. I probably should have just asked the prof to write my exam outside. He’s a reasonable guy, he would have let me. Because I didn’t have my decongestant, I was popping breath mints – the only things I had to somewhat relieve the blockage in my nose – like crazy.
I finish the exam way too early, which gives me an idea of what kind of mark I’m gonna get. I’ll be lucky to get a C. *Sigh* so much for keeping my marks up for that class… That’ll drop my average to a B, or a B+, I can’t remember. But meh, I’m determined. I’m gonna start studying now, and hopefully come March, the next test, I’ll be over prepared… Go A+, lol.
After the exam, I went to church for the 3rd night in a row, for rehearsal… that’s not so bad cause it’s only the 3rd out of 5… I’m going back tonight, and then tommorow for the actually performance. Whheeee… But nahh.. I don’t mean to sound sarcastic. Cause I really am loving it.
Here’s the Brass Section + a piece of the Rhythm Section…

Rob (Conductor) and the Woodwinds and Violins…

Enoch Posing… And I do mean posing, he wasn’t playing, just… posing… lol

Maida with a wig on… she’s not in the orchestra, she’s in the cast…

I’m going to put up videos of me playing last Sunday soon, too. I dunno why but I’ve been really lazy about editting that video. Gonna take more pictures of the production too, I dunno why but I only remembered now that i have a camera, and I should really be taking pictures of this thing… lol.

I was right!

In possibly the most amazing political analysis I’ve ever done (although I haven’t even published – nor really written down in any coherent way), I picked out Stephane Dion to win the Leadership Convention of the Liberal Party… Please mark the times… that prediction was made at approximately 7AM (see post below), long before the second balots even started. And guess, what, unbelieveably… I was right.

Oh man, I couldn’t believe it. See, why this so big for me… at least in my head, is that I didn’t just like pull a name out of the hat… It was a bold prediction, not a guess. It was based on my analysis of each candidate’s strenghts and weaknesses, and what I believe is good for Canada/what I think the delagates at the convention will ultimately see is good for Canada (again I haven’t written this down yet, the reasons that I wrote down of why I chose Stephane Dion were quickie reasons, written down in like the 5 minutes before I had to run for rehearsal). I just can’t believe I got it right.

And you know what, it was a hard prediction to make. Chantel Hebert, a collumnist for the Toronto Star – and someone whose opinions I respect a lot – predicted (although it was really more of a guess cause she was really kind of forced into guessing by Peter Mansbridge) Michael Ignattief. While other political commentators of CBC initially predicted Bob Rae. Well flying in the face of political analysts whom I respect and admire, I decided no, it can’t be. A rookie MP or a former *NDP* Premier? No way. The Liberal Party needed someone with more substance than that. So I chose Stephane Dion (my second choice would have been Gerard Kennedy). And it turns out I was right on the money.

Ahh, it’s unbelieveable how big… not in any like, public way, but basically in a confirmation that the career path or at least the education path that I’ve chosen is right. I was actually able to understand the issues at hand and provide a coherent analysis (though as I mentioned before it’s not written down yet). I’ll probably type this up in my blog soon – but it’ll definately have to wait at least until after my American Politics exam on Monday. Right now, just as this morning, I’m just a little lazy, though not just that, I have to be at church by 7:30 tommorow, so I’m gonna need some sleep.

Abortion…

It’s quite obvious at a first glance of this website where I could possibly stand on the abortion issue. In eight words here’s what I believe: Abortion is the death of a human life. Instead of writing a huge exposition of why I believe this, I thought I’d show it… I’m sorry… Screw the rights of women. There are some rights us humans are not supposed to have.

This is why…

If ever I’ve thought that abortion was wrong before, I do so even more now. Please BE WARNED. The images in that website are EXTREMELY GRAPHIC. I considered taking one and putting it on here, but it’s just too much…
