The Longest Day…
No, this is not a reference to the movie, though it actually is one of my favourite war movies. The title is a reference to the 18+ hour day I had yesterday.

I was awoken by my alarm at 6:30AM, but I didn’t really get out of bed until maybe quarter to. My first stop of the day was of course at church, where I had to be by 7:30AM because I was on the praise band.

The first picture is of me showing off my non-uniformness.. Haha. Rob was on vacation so instead of the all-black we normally wear, we were allowed to wear anything we wanted… as long as it was appropriate on stage of course. Anyway, I made sure I took advantage of this, not wearing anything black at all (except for my shoes, though if I had nice brown dress shoes I would have worn that instead). I wore my charcoal grey striped pants, and a pastel yellow shirt. The second pic is just me and Phebe… I just put it up to point out my glasses tan, hahaha… Oh yeah, I bought contacts last week so. Yeah.

So I was at church pretty much from 7:30AM to maybe 1PM or so. Pretty typical on-stage Sunday for me. Afterward, I got a ride from Tita Emma, but we stopped by Bario Fiesta first where I grabbed some junk food to take home. Oh yeah, I’ll have video of our songs up asap.

My next stop was home, as I mentioned. But only because my dad was having a former-KBCFers get together, and I pretty much had to show up so people who haven’t seen me since i was like 10 years old, can see how much I’ve grown. haha. I stayed maybe an hour, then I went out to get some things that I needed for BC. Books, magazines, and a new shirt and tie. Then it was off to Dave’s baptism.

Actually Dave’s baptism wasn’t just one stop. First I went down to GCF to meet up with them, but since the baptism wasn’t until 5PM, James (Alberto, not my brother) and I went to Chapters first and waited for some of the guys who needed directions to get to the place where the baptisms were going to be. There I bought Plato’s Republic, and the newest Popular Science magazine. When Herzon, Josh and Isaac finally came by we were able to leave for the baptism.

Too bad I could only stay like 20 minutes. I had to leave right away to go back to church for rehearsals of the song we were going to play as a lead in for the African Children’s Choir concert that night. I stayed for the concert as well, then hung around the church for a bit before heading back home again.

I was home again for just a little under an hour before James and I had to leave for my final stop for the night… It was around 10PM already, but yeah, it was Stephanie’s birthday and we went out to Afterlife. I only stayed till about 1:30 cause I wanted to make sure I caught the last train back to UofT where I parked the van. I finally made it home around 2AM or 2:30 or so…

So ended my longest day. what’s that… 5 hours short of an entire 24 hours. Meh. I’ll put up pictures of me and James at the club soon, as well as my videos of course… In the mean time, here are some pictures from Friday, the Family Fun Fest at church…

First is a picture of me and my wicked new Roots sunglasses. Next is me and Rachel…

This past week…

Whoa. I went to bed intending to nap for like 20 minutes at like 7PM. And I woke up like 30 mintues ago at 11PM… I didn’t realize I was that tired. I spent the whole day working downtown on my first shift at Roy Thompson Hall. It wasn’t nearly as busy as I thought it would be. Seeing as there were only 4 bars open, and yet there was up to 2000 people there. But meh, I’m sure it’ll get there.

Anyway, I also just realized, since it’s been forever since I last posted something, that I didn’t talk about my last week yet. Namely the last music camp. Well it was quite fun, and I did some pretty cool things, like teaching a class or two of recorder, and doing 3 “Styles-of-Music” sessions. Haha. The recorder was really funny, cause I was basically like 1 or 2 notes ahead of the kids I’m teaching. I’m doing better though, I think I’m going to really take it up. Haha.

The “Styles-of-Music” classes were my favourite though. On Tuesday, I did Jazz (which reminded me of how much I loved Jazz, promtping me to buy 2 Chris Botti CDs afterward). Then I did Rock on Wednesday, and finally, Hip Hop on Friday. Monday, Kathryn did Classical, her specialty. And Friday, I wasn’t there because I was at the orientation at Roy Thompson Hall. That was too bad too, I was planning to get there as soon as I can to see the kids off and stuff, but training ran long, and the stupid traffic (I kept thinking, oh no the traffic won’t be bad cause it’s only 2 or 3PM… all the while forgetting that it’s friday and people are trying to get home early for the weekend). Anyway, I left Roy Thompson Hall, which is pretty much at the very core of downtown, at 2:40PM, and I arrived at Church at 3:20… just in time to see the last of the kids off, and to join in on the cleaning.

The thing that the camp did was to sing a song for the church, which was really cool cause I happened to be on the Praise Band this week.. So that was nice. Then afterward, I booked it on down to GCF Toronto to join them at the Taste of the Danforth, which was nice, except it rained most of the time we were there. After that, we headed on to my place to do some kareoke.. haha. over all. this past week had been pretty cool. I’m looking forward to this upcoming weekend, with the African Children’s Choir at my church..

Then… on to BC next Thursday… Then the Toronto Film Festival. Then… back to school already. My my, where has the summer gone?

My New Job…

Last week when I was practically bedridden with sickness, I had a lot to think about. And defcinately one of the things that kept popping up in my mind was the idea of just… well… giving up on this whole bartending thing.

It’s just been nothing but inconvenience since I started. And at the same time I’d been keeping up with this other job.. that is, teaching piano. That pays pretty well anyways.

So pretty much last Sunday, I decided forget it. I’m just going to drop the whole thing, and do what I’ve always done in situations like this… crawl back to the city for work. I was going to call my boss at West Rouge Community Centre, and see about getting that piano teaching job for the fall that I believe is vacant right now. I figured between that, the private lessosn that I teach on my own, and the lessons I teach with the MCF school of music. I can actually make a decent amount of money.

Well all that changed yesterday with a phone call I got from the Assistant Food and Beverage Manager at the Corporation of Roy Thompson and Massey Hall… It was for a job offer as a bartender. Well of course I didn’t need much time to think about it, I accepted right away…

Oh it’s not all great, however. Cause there are of course some things that I have thought about since that phone call… Like. the fact that I need to be downtown now, *every single day*. Oh man. That’s going to cost me in time and money (you guessed it, commuting). But ah well. As long as I am behind the bar, it shall definately be worth it…

What a wonderful world!
Yes. Despite the fact that I am sick like crazy right now, it’s still quite a wonderful world. Cause I think I’m finally getting the hang of it. I can finally play the guitar… and by extention of that, the ukulele.

I noticed it during last week’s Orchestra Camp while I was forced into teaching guitar (because of the lack of guitar teachers). I noticed that my strumming was getting stronger… Sweet huh. All these years of random learning has finally paid off.. Oh and I’m sure the 2 hours a day of guitar playing helped quite a bit too…

Orchestra camp was fun too.. I should get a picture of our shirts. The leader ones have “Band Geek” written on the back, beside a picture that looks odly like me. Aparently I epitomize the band geek image. haha. Eh.

It *is* however because of music camp (I’m quite sure) that I am sick right now. All that close contact with them childrens… gah. But I’m surviving. You know I’m getting better cause I’m eating a ton more. Last week, on Thursday, I had chicken soup for supper. Then Friday morning and lunch I did have some more to eat (Timmie’s Breakfast Sandwich, and Pizza for lunch) but by evening I was definately feeling worse, so I had chicke soup only again for supper. Then Saturday, I started really feeling it. I had a lunch thing with the guys at Montana’s my favourite restaurant. I had chicken wings and a steak sandwich, which I managed to choke down, and somewhat enjoy, but that evening was the “it” evening. You know the night when you really know you’re sick, and now you can’t do anything about it. So I didn’t even have anything supper then. Sunday morning, no breakfast, cause I was mostly drugged up. I did manage a burger for lunch, but yeah no supper again.
Monday was about the same. I don’t even rememeber what I ate, if I did eat anything. Oh yeah, I think I made myself some garlic fried drice and tried to eat adobo with it. What would normally take me one meal to finish, pretty much got me through the entire day. I would eat a little bit of the plate, then stop cause I’d feel pretty crappy, then eat a little more later on. Tuesday, I thought I was feeling better. I took a shot and had 2 of the krispy kreme donuts that my parents brought home from the states, then I went out to help out at Josh’s camp. But by lunch I was pretty dead, and I was running out of there and back home in bed.
But alas, yesterday, Wednesday. I knew I was feeling better when I had 2 more of them krispy kreme’s and I didn’t feel like projectile vomiting. But then I had the weirdest combo at lunch – sushi, and KFC. haha. Oh man I had so much to eat, but then, I barely had anything to eat this weekend so I told my mom I was making up for it. But then the kicker… Yesterday night was all you can eat wings at Wing Shack. I had 4 pounds. Hahahaa. I didn’t vomit.. It didn’t even knock me out. So I think I’m doing a little better, witch just a little bit of symptoms left (mainly nose stuff…)
Ahh, another upside of this all. I was finally able to get through some scrubs episodes. Haha. I made it through to episode 16 of season 3 last night. Which means that since Friday, I’ve watched 64 episodes. Ahhhahaha. I love being sick.
Oh and back to what a wonderful world. I’m learninng Israel Kamakawiwo’ole’s version of Somewhere Over the Rainbow/What a Wonderful World. Sounds so nice. Especially with the new strings on my Uke. Very nice indeed.
