Almost there…
Posted by: in Blogger on September 30th, 2007
Gah! So I bought Vista on Wednesday, and pretty much have been working on upgrading my laptop ever since. Countless hours have I spent trying to get it working. But alas, I gave it up, and just reformated my computer and did a clean install. Works perfect now though. Now it’s just a matter of setting up the computer how I like it.
As I said.. almost there… More to come soon.

It’s been a while…

Anyway, it has been quite a crazy few weeks. Really it began with the end of camp season… which meant the last week of music camp/kidz camp. During that time, I was preparing for my trip to BC, while training for a new job and all that…
Ok well why don’t I just start it off there. I think I’ve mentioned it before but I might as well lay the background down now again. It was about the 2nd or 3rd day of the last music camp when I was called by a really nice lady named Vikky, who is the assistant food and beverage supervisor at Roy Thompson Hall. She called offering me a job as a bartender with them. Well of course I accepted, duh. But that would pretty much set the stage for the craziness of the past two weeks for me.
Of course I wanted the job, but it very quickly started some problems for me with regards to quite a number of things I had going on already. First off, I missed the last day of that music camp because I had to be in an orientation session at RTH, which ran a little longer than we expected. I got back to church in time to see the very last kid off, and to help out with the clean up. Thankfully I was still able to see the kids on Sunday when they sang at church (videos have already been posted on Youtube). Next though, I had to take 2 days off from Kidz Camp the week after, to do training at Seniors Jubilee.
After these last two weeks of camp came a little bit of a break for me, which was going to BC. I left on August 23rd (after a nearly all-night party on the 22nd) arriving for the end of the Adults-Only Holiday Bible Week at Capernwray. All that travel and the party time (which we had because a bunch of guys were leaving for school while I was away in BC), took its toll on me though, because I was supposed to play the piano on Thursday night but I pretty much slept through all of that. Oh yeah, that’s what I was doing at Capernwray, playing the piano. It wasn’t such a big deal, though of course I had let Lawrence and Charlie down, but it made me all the more ready for the next few sessions which I played in (for men’s conference).
(Pic 1: The view off the dock at Capernwray Harbour. Pic 2: The Llamas that the school now owns. I forget what they call this one, but aparently they had to speparate him because he wouldn’t stop humping the other Llamas. Pic 3: James Reimer, classmate from my first year at Capes)
On Friday, Men’s Conference started, which is the main reason I was there. It was basically just a wonderful time to reconnect with old friends, and to study the bible (Jerry Benjamin was teaching), and be reminded of this great truth that I often forget in the business of life here in Toronto. Consider Jesus! Find my sufficiency in Him. I think it was really appropriate that that is the reminder I am given in BC when that was the theme of my last year at Capernwray (His grace is sufficient for me because His power is perfected in my weakness). Then there were also some wonderful lessons learned, which also really help me understand Capernwray all the more. I love Charlie’s explanation of all the food that were to have… Taste and see the goodness of Jesus. Take in the abundance of His life! How wonderful that we have a God who is more than we can ask or imagine.
After men’s conference was another wonderful time reconnecting with old friends. I had the chance to spend time with Nathan Burns, Tyler and Michelle (and little Jeremiah -pictured with me down below), and of course my old roommate, Anthony Fox.
And then after even that, right before I left to return to Toronto, I had he chance as well to spend time with my family. Great times with cousins I have not seen in a while (especially Gabe – first picture).
Of course coming home was a drag, but I felt refreshed and ready to tackle year ahead. First up is the craziness called the Toronto International Film Festival, which is what was starting off the season for us at Roy Thompson Hall. Good times to get to know the job really well, earn cash, and see celebrities (the final tally… Jake Gylenhaal, George Clooney, Monica Belluci, Michael Caine, Jude Law, and finally Susan Sarandon). All of them of course, I saw only as they were passing by my bar or popcorn station.
All I can really say about that, though is eh… It was just crazy hard, and long days. I worked 30 hours the first week of the festival, and the second week 35, I believe, which is all of course on top of my other 2 jobs, and school. I’m glad that it’s over now, though, and that I am able to now settle in to the daily routines of school and work to which I shall become quite accustomed to over the years.
Hmph. Wow, I can’t believe how easily I summarized such a crazy time. Haha, I guess I’m really ready to tackle these upcoming papers that I have to write. Oh wait I can’t forget though my new calling in life… brought about by a new and ever deepening association with Greenhills Christian Fellowship – Toronto.
Just some quick background on that, I first heard about GCF’s Toronto satellite during Bethel’s debut like 4 months ago. Didn’t really think much about it, except it was cool, of course (because GCF Ortigas is connected with The Learning Tree, which is the preschool I attended when I was a kid… and it was a show at GCF Ortigas where I became a Christian at the young age of 7). But I noticed that an old friend of mine, Jeson started attending the church. Of course, hearing more about it, and seeing how crazy my schedule is… I just thought why not, let’s get Version 6:23 (my band with my parents and their friends) back together to play there. That we did, on the first Sunday of August.
On my next time there, I had the chance to meet Jungee Marcelo, who was consulting for them regarding their praise and worship, and youth ministries. And well, we hit it off. Such a cool guy, he is, and of course he’s got some things to teach us (me David, and a new friend, James Alberto). See, Kuya Jungee (I’m supposed to call him Kuya, because I am older than half of his age) is a music producer and composer in the Philippines, and offered to teach some song writing classes. Of course I jumped at this chance to learn from a pro. And well… some trips to Long and McQuades, Steves, another Sunday the church, and a few weeks later, and here I am. New recording equipment, and assignments to write some songs.
Haha, where will this go? Who knows, but I am really enjoying it, and even really surprising myself. I’m really excited to see where this leads and how God will use this in my life.
Phew. Ok time for class. Gonna go now.
The relase!

Yes. Today is the realease of Grey’s Anatomy Season 3 DVD. And whatdayaknow… I made the right amount of tips last night to buy it (about $55). Hmph, I think that’s a sign that I should own it. And it comes at a good time too, next week I only have school. Now work. Horah. Which means I have lots of time to watch through it before the season premier of September 27th (which most likely I’ll have to tape and watch later).
Anyway. Other anticipated DVD releases/season premiers for me are Corner Gas – DVD Release next week on Sept 18, and season premier on September 24th – and finally, my favourite out of all these, The Unit – DVD Release on September 25th, and season premier on… hmph, same day. haha. cool.
I think those three are definately the ones I’m going to seriously follow this year. I have such limited time to watch TV so I’m going to really make it count. Ok, so now, just for the fun of it all, here are the stars I’ve seen so far at the Toronto International Film Festival… Listed in the order I was closest to them lol.
1. Michael Caine
2. Jude Law
3. Jake Gyllenhaal
4. George Clooney
5. Monica Belluci
Man what the heck, why are they all guys? I didn’t even get to see Rosamund Pike, Reese Witherspoon, or Rachel Evan Wood (was too busy working when they all came in). LOL. Oh man is this ever stupid.
Star Struck…

I bet I know what some people in that massive crowd behind Roy Thompson Hall were thinking… Why the frig is that guy walking away from the building we’re all trying to get into.
Yes ladies and gentlemen, last night I was within 10 feet of “George” (Clooney… for some who still haven’t figured it out…). I was standing at my little popcorn station as he whisked by on his way to the backstage of Roy Thompson Hall. No, unfortunately he chose not to indulge himself in my overpriced snacks.
Other celebs I was privileged to have shared the air with were Jake Gyllenhaal, and aparantly (cause I wasn’t paying attention, and didn’t actually see them whisk by), Reese Whitherspoon, Meryl Streep, and Rosamund Pike.
Wait… back to my original thought here… Do I care? Nope. Which is why I was walking away from the building that a few hundred others were trying to get into. And I was close too. Real close. When I walked out of the artist’s entrance, they already had it secure… meaning if I wanted to, I probably could have hung back and gotten an autograph or something.
But alas, catching the last Go Train of the night was more important, so I whisked myself off, earning looks of disbelief as I passed the crazy fans.
Anyway, my point is. I don’t get it. This odd fanaticism that drives people sometimes. Bah. Ahh well. More of the same today. I wonder what other big name I will be seeing again today. haha.
