YouTube and NYC…

Just wanted to update my YouTube account… I’m at 65,000 hits! Horah. I went from averaging 150 hits 2 months ago, to close to 500 now. Sweet. The reason: My “How to play I Can Only Imagine” video. Haha. I’ll be uploading more soon, too, so hopefully that will garner yet more hits…

Went to NYC with Ate Denise. Hmm. Ate way too much. Spent way too much. Enough said. LOLs. I did eat the best spicy salmony maky ever. It’s from this restaurant called Moca, which I think is an Asian Fusion place… Oh man. It was soo good.

Ok enough. I need to finish this frigging essay. Gahh.. I hate school.

Learning from House…

LOL. So I actually learned something from watching House yesterday… or the day before I can’t remember which day. Anyway, today on “Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader” they asked what is the universal blood recipient… A, O, or AB… And because I heard it on House, I knew it was AB.

For those wondering… AB is universal recipient.. meaning you can take any type of blood. O is universal donor, meaning you can give blood to anyone.

Cool huh? Thanks Hugh Laurie…

Elliott Yamin

Hmph. Went to see Elliott Yamin tonight with Ate Denise. We waited so long for him to come out so she could get his autograph and a picture, that I decided I wanted a picture too.

He’s a pretty amazing singer. Much in contrast to the first opening act… some Josh guy from down south. He’s… Not good. The second opening act was much better. The Last Goodnight. I wanted to buy their CD but first.. I didn’t have cash. And second, I dun wanna pay 20 bucks for something I can buy for 12 at HMV.

Anyway. Stupidly missed our train. Bah. Since when do I ever sit where I can’t see the screen? So we ended up taking the TTC home… Stupid TTC. Which meant we got home an hour later than we should have. Ah well. All around good night.

Show Yourself A Man

This is the summary of a Bible Study that I gave to a group of friends on Sept. 29, 2007. Dunno why I never posted it up here… had it on Facebook though.

***

King David is about to die, and so he calls his son, Solomon, who is the heir to the throne in for a final man-to-man talk. Obviously what he is about to say is very important as they are his last words, as a dying man to his son. David says: “I am going the way of all the earth Be strong, therefore, and show yourself a man. Keep the charge of the LORD your God, to walk in His ways, to keep His statutes, His commandments, His ordinances, and His testimonies, according to what is written in the Law of Moses” (1 Kings 2:2-3)

David chose these words carefully, reflecting on an event in which David saw the perils of not following exactly what God has commanded. While moving the ark, after defeating the Philistines, David made the wrong choise, decided to move the ark without first consulting the law regarding the proper procedures for moving the ark. As a result instead of the 6 Levites (Priests) who were supposed to move the Ark, David had the ark moved using a new cart and an ox. Unfortunately, the ox stumbled and the ark almost fell from the cart, so Uzzah stretched out his hand to steady it.

But, being impure, God could not possibly stand the touch of Uzzah on his most holy ark, and so God struck Uzzah dead. David, fearful of God, leaves the ark in the house of Obed-edom for three months, during which time God blessed his household.

David, seeing this decided to move the ark again, but this time consulted the law before doing so. He realized the error of his ways and this time moved the ark properly, causing much celebration in Israel.

We must note that there was nothing inherently wrong with how David decided to move the Ark the first time. It was not like he was trying to cut corners. The passage specifically says that they used a *new* cart, possibly meaning a well built cart to move the ark, and also an ox to pull the cart. There was nothing wrong with their attitude in moving it, their error was in oversight. They did not first check the Law of Moses to find out how exactly they were to move the ark. By extension, they did not realize the holiness of the LORD, which is why Uzzah died.

With this in mind, David charges Solomon to walk in His ways, to keep His statutes, His commandments, His ordinances, and His testimonies, according to what is written in the Law of Moses (2 Kings 2:3). Realizing that there is absolutely no excuse in not following the law of God. But further, he actually connects this to being a man, and being strong. The only way to be a man, and to be strong is to follow the law of God.

So what does this mean for us today? In a reading of the Law of Moses (Genesis to Deuteronomy, specifically Leviticus), we realized that God is extremely detailed in what he expects of his people. In reading the Gospels, we also realize that the expectations of the law go far beyong just phyisical actions (Matthew 5)… If you have looked at a woman lustfully, you have already commited adultery. If you have looked at a brother with hatred, you have already committed murder.

We realize that the Law is actually quite impossible. Except for this… Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and of death. For what the Law could not do, weak as it was through the flesh, God did: sending His own Son in he likeness of sinful flesh and as an offering for sin, He condemned sin in the flesh, so that the requirement of the Law might be fulfilled in us, who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.

Wow how amazing is that? God, through Jesus Christ, has given us the mechanism to fulfill His law, and thus to be truly men. It is through Jesus, who did not let the smallest stroke of the law pass without being fulfilled, that we are truly men. It does not matter how well intentioned we are, guys, or how “good” our actions are. We do not have in and of ourselvesd to fulfil the demands of a holy and righteous God. We need help. We all need Jesus.

2007 Christmas Wishlist

Following the example of my friend, Tina, who blogs when she’s supposed to be doing something else (I should be finishing my frigging paper that’s already 12% over due – that’s 2% per day).

Here is what I want for Christmas… Not that I’ll really get anything from this list. But one can dream huh? We’re gonna go from mildly possible. To. “Yeah right”.

  1. Call of Duty 4 (will probably buy this soon though)
  2. Another guitar for Guitar Hero 3 Wii (whenever it comes out…)
  3. Black or Brown 100% Cashmere sweater. Preferably Argyle, V-Neck. But beggars can’t be choosers huh?
  4. 1 Bottle of Talisker, 15-year-aged, Single Malt Scotch Whiskey.
  5. Canon PowerShot SD950 (12.1 MP) Camera.
  6. A PlayStation 3… hey, why not?
  7. Sony Bravia 32″ LCD HD TV.
  8. Mercedes Benz ML-class SUV… Haha. Or well, *any* car at all!

Phew… quite a list huh? The truth is, I don’t really know what I want for Christmas. As you can see from my previous post, I pretty much just buy what I want on the spot… I guess I’m just a little spoiled huh?

The Complete Calvin and Hobbes…

I’m not the collecting type. Never did collect stamps, coins, even sports cards or anything like that. I guess that’s a good thing, cause when I do end up starting to collect something, I like to see it through to the end. As in. Own *everything*.

Here’s my latest completed collection…

I was first introduced to Calvin and Hobbes by my Grade 6 teacher, Mr. MacRitchie, at Heron Park. I loved it then, but kind of lost touch with it during my high school years. Then one day, I was randomly looking through some stuff at the library, and I noticed 2 Calvin and Hobbes books for sale for super cheap. I didn’t even had cash then… What the guy at the counter did for me was charge it as late fees on my library card.
Anyway, I lost those two books already. I have no clue where they went – except I know for a fact that I lost one at Capernwray. The other one just disappeared. But a year or two ago, I found another book. This time at the garage sale at church, to raise money for the mexico missions trip. It was even reserved for me by my friend who was organizing the sale, cause he knew I liked it. I still have that book. But oddly enough I remember buying a Volleyball Set as well that I never took home. It probably got resold…
Eh. Ever since owning these two books, I’ve always wanted to buy more. In fact, as is my nature, as I mentioned before. I wanted to own the whole collection. But I’ve never really had the chance to see it through. Mostly because I don’t know exactly how many books were in the collection, and most of the books had to be ordered online.
Well. Things changed yesterday when I was randomly searching stuff online. You know what it’s like on Wikipedia. You start at one topic, and just keep reading and end up on another topic. I think my weirdest line of topics started with me looking up “sommelier” and ending up on sniper rifles. LOL. But yeah, the topic I ended up on yesterday was Bill Watterson, the creator of Calvin and Hobbes. I remember being challenged in Grade 12 by my teacher, Ms. French (who teaches English. hahaha), to find the book Bill Watterson wrote under a pseudonym. I’ve never really given it a try until then.
It was of course while reading Watterson’s biography on Wikipedia, that I realized that he published the entire Calvin and Hobbes collection. Well that really solves my problem. So I looked it up. I found the cheapest price – Chapters. And realized man. I have text books that cost more than this collection. So I grabbed it immediately even though it was over $100. Anyway, shipping was free, though I did dish out a little more for the priority shipping.
Well, less than 24 hours later. Here we are with my brand new collection. 22 pounds of Calvin and Hobbes. Haha. I’ll be spending the next year or so reading through this. Plus I doubt I’ll lend it out to anyone, so if you were thinking it, you can forget about it.
Hahaha. Weee. I’m so happy right now.

Month without mom…

My mom was in the Philippines for the past month. And this is what’s happened while she was gone…

Yes that is my room. Although let me make this clear… My mom does not clean my room for me. I took this picture after I brought all of my stuff that was scattered around the house back to my room… I realized afterward that I wanted to take pictures of how messy the house was while my mom was gone, but it was too late… So instead I took pictures of my room. Haha.

But anyway. My room is almost always messy. The problem this year was that I didn’t do my pre-school cleaning, that I do every year. Cause during the time I normally do this cleaning, I was really really busy with work. I did start cleaning it tonight. Cause my mom’s pretty much making me do it. LOL. It shall be nice and clean by tomorrow I hope (I’ve done my desk side… But my clothes are still a mess)

This is all the clothes I had to laundry before she came home. I didn’t do laundry at all for 4 weeks – I finally did it like 3 days before she came home. I thought it might be a mean thing to leave her all that laundry after all that travelling. Anyway. I had to do 4 loads… LOL. It pretty much took me the entire day to do.

Phew. Been really crazy busy recently. I have a paper I still need to write that’s already overdue. Bah. But I’m work for a few weeks, and will be going on a little mini-vacation to New York soon. So yay.
