To Vlog or not to Vlog?

Back to my blog series from March (actually this might be going into April… I don’t remember). Anyway, in this blog, I consider how I will share my experiences in Japan to friends and family… Like most people I’ve got a GoPro, which I’ve been using when travelling. But I’m not quite sure if Vlogging (video blogging) is really for me… Anyway on with the post….

I’m still home sick (at least for the morning… gotta do payroll in the afternoon). I’m still working hard on learning Hiragana and hiragana-based vocabulary. Going pretty well. I’m pretty sure I have Hiragana down, though I’m still drilling it lots. And for Vocab, I think I have 8 of the 46 characters going. I’ll try to get it up to 15 tonight.

One of the things I’ve been pondering is whether or not I should Vlog my way through at least my first year in Japan. There’s a lot of great ones out there on YouTube. I particularly like the guy who does Abroad in Japan. But what I’ve noticed is that most Vlogging centres around Tokyo. Which makes sense obviously. But it seems like every single Osaka video has to do with Takoyaki, Okonomiyaki and the breaded veggies on sticks (I forget what it’s called).

On that note, I’ve been checking out on Hyperdia how far various cities are from where I would live in Osakasayama-shi. I’ve figured out that it’s about 40 minutes from Namba. Which is the main downtown distict on Osaka. So that’s pretty much a weekly visit for me. Probably. Then, Kyoto and Kobe are both only about 80 minutes away, and can be as cheap as 1,300 Yen, if I don’t take the bullet train (which would only save me about 5-10 minutes anyway).

Farther away, so it would have to be an overnight trip is Hiroshima. Which is somewhere I definitely want to visit multiple times. That can cost up to 11,000 Yen and can take about 2.5 hours. So it can also be doable in one day. But better to spend the night.

Lastly, I would really like to take the train to Kagoshima, which is way south on Kyushu island. That’s 22,000 yen though And about 5 hours. Oh and I’d really like to take a ferry somewhere too.

Meh. Tons that I want to do and I don’t even have a visa yet. I’ll have to think of this some more…
